In major cities, speakeasies were often elaborate -
offering food, live bands, and floor shows. Speakeasies became more
popular and numerous as the Prohibition years progressed. This show will
feature flashy jazz and novelty piano performances by Thomas Rheingans,
torch songs by sultry songstress, Annie Kaiser, and guest appearances by
percussionist Bruce Beaton and other members of the Rheingans Ensemble. |

Portland, Oregon-based Vagabond Opera.From the
far-flung exotic reaches of Portland, Vagabond Opera brings a musical
goulash of styles wherever they pitch their tents for the night.
Specializing in Bohemian eclecticism, the troupe borrows liberally from
musical styles all over the world and runs it through their own special
filter: part demented klezmer band, part Kurt Weill cabaret decadence.
Pianist Thomas Rheingans and his ensemble including Middle Eastern Dancer
Severina will kick off the concert. This is an evening you wont want to
miss!

Christmas Sojourn

We bring a touch of the Portland Grotto experience to Vancouver with our annual holiday concert production. This show offers an interesting mix of classical, jazz, and folk renditions of Christmas music. Roaming carolers, festive lights, desserts, and hot beverages will put audiences in the holiday spirit. Pianist Thomas Rheingans will be joined by vocalist Annie Kaiser, members of the Rheingans Ensemble, and vocal groups from the award winning Heritage High School Choral program. |

An American in Paris

Paris has a mystique and fascination that has inspired American composers, writers, and painters for over a century. Performers like Josephine Baker; and expatriates like Gertrude Stein, Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, the Gershwins and Cole Porter flooded Paris's cafés and salons after WWI. This playbill will feature an interesting mix of Parisian cabaret, French art songs, and music of Gershwin, Cole Porter, Ravel, and Debussy. |
| Brisa and Tenley have been wowing audiences with their jazz and musical theater cabarets in venues including Wilf's Piano Bar, Lakewood's Backdoor Theatre as well as appearances with the Oregon Symphony Pops, numerous local theaters, and the Portland Opera. |

Café du Monde

Our season makes a stop at the famous Café du Monde in the French Quarter of New Orleans. New Orleans has always been a significant center for music, with its intertwined European, Latin American, and African-American cultures. New Orleans' unique musical heritage was born in its pre-American and early American days with a unique blending of European instruments with African rhythms. This show will feature dance performances by Alex Krebs - a nationally and internationally known Argentine tango dancer and instructor. The playbill will feature Ragtime music, Dixieland jazz, music of Louie Mareau Gottschalk, and more! |
